Bad salad

Can rusty lettuce make you sick?

I don't know, but I'm not eating that shit.

That's what I get for choosing a salad from a fast-food establishment....
but hell if I'm going to go take it back.

Yes, Bronco - it was not one of my better fast food experiences. I have several more fast-food-gone-wrong stories. I haven't quite given up yet though! (yeah, that's sad)

Thanks for reading, dancewriter! :-)

i've had that problem with salads from drive-throughs and sent email complaints to the company. they usually try to get you to come back to their establishment by giving you coupons for free stuff.

Hi Trixi!
I know, that's a good idea. There are so many times that I'm just one to put up with bad food, even if I'm dining IN the restaurant. I just whine about it later, like I did here! :-)

brown mushy areas on the lower parts of the leaves are caused by a virus when the plant was growing, they should not have made it past quality control much less into your salad -- probably not going to hurt you but it makes you wonder what else they missed.

rusty edges on the leaves are the result of using something metal to cut up the lettuce instead of pulling the head apart -- not going to hurt you but certainly not what you paid for.

writing a letter is best -- if you enclose the receipt, you should get your money back plus a coupon -- if you enclose a photo, you should get at least a $25 gift certificate (because they don't want you showing the pictures to others)

wow, jim - you really did your research. Or you just happen to know a hell of a lot about lettuce. Or you're trying to freak me out and get me to never eat fast food again. I don't know though, if I have a bag of salad at home and it gets either too cold in the fridge or is just sitting in there too long, it gets that rusty look too. I sure as hell hope that's all it was. I guess that's what I get for going to your rival BK, huh? :-)

if you leave it in the frig long enough, it becomes kelp :)
