Silly post #108

Ever embarrassed yourself not by saying the wrong thing, but saying the words incorrectly? There are some words that just make me giggle when they are mispronounced. I'm guilty of this too, sometimes the first time you see a word you just get it in your head how it would sound, and even after you're corrected, it's hard to forget. It wasn't that long ago that I said film noir as film no-eer or pronounced wanton as won-ton but hey, those are words I don't often use!

I always thought it was funny that when my dad says white, it's like he switches the w and the h around and says "hwite" - I don't know, maybe that's old school.

My favorite mispronunciation came from a lady I used to work with. She was known for this, or just using the wrong words. Like I don't know how many times when listening to the radio she said "Ooh, that's Jason Timbaland!" and I would say "Goddamnit, it's Justin Timberlake, I told you that 5 minutes ago!" But the best was when she was making a comment about having a big butt, and trying to say derriere but said "my big di-ah-ree-er" which just, you know, doesn't sound good.

One of many things that really bother me is when people say the word wash as wrsh (I am not even sure if I spelled it right) but there is NO F**K*** "R" in the word wash. When I hear it being said like that it really make me want to just... urg even talking about it gets me overly frustrated. Anger management anyone?

Having lived in Oregon, I used to get people saying "Ore gone".
Usually people from out of state.

I hate when people pronounce words that end in the letter 'a' as if there was an 'er' in place of the 'a'.
Like pizzer and soder.
I also hate when people pronounce nuclear as nucular. Yikes.

I just find it hysterical when I hear stuff like that. Especially when a person is being really earnest and they have no idea that they have said it wrong. I try to keep a straight face, but I can't. I just can't....
I also love it when people just mix it all up by mistake. Talking really fast and end up saying it all ass-backwards. I once frantically asked my sister if my "mess was hairy" before going into a highschool dance. I think we laughed for a solid two hours.

Love the mispronunciations. My mother, who was born in Italy drops the H sound whenever it starts off a word. And she can never get when things are not supposed to be made plural. Such as her experiences with her place of work giving her the "runs arounds". My Puerto Rican coworker also likes to do such things, such as the Dalai Lama, who is now the Lolly Dama.
