It WAS sweet on one level, feels kind of mean to be citical, but the idea also sounds a little pushy. It's pretty obvious he hasn't really taken the time to figure out what it might have been that has made you feel unhappy. THAT would have been something. Some gesture that said he noticed what had been going on, followed it through, and wanted to make things better. Maybe, though, that is too much to ask.
